There are many types and styles of steps and stairs available for your new deck. In this blog we look at some deck steps ideas to transform your home.
The first question you need to answer is:
Some steps are functional, for example access to a high level deck from outside. Other step styles are more decorative, for example corner box steps or cascading steps with planter boxes.
1. Corner Box Steps are both functional and decorative. They make a grand entrance from a lower level to a higher deck. The steps can be used to connect two levels of a deck, or to link the deck to a pool or garden.
2. Wide Frontage Steps make the deck look larger. A beautiful, open viewing platform is created when looking from the deck to the garden or pool on the lower levels.
3. Floating Steps create a magical pathway between different levels in the garden. Using clever planting around these steps make a lovely back to nature option.
4. Cascading Steps with Built-in Planter Boxes make a beautiful transition from the deck to the area below. Depending how many steps are involved, you could break them up with a landing or two and even add a seat to enjoy the beautiful plants in the boxes.
5. Steps down to the Fire Pit that can also be used as the seating area around the fire pit. Simple, yet elegant and functional.
6. Steps to link decks on different levels – This can be multiple split levels like a pool and garden area or simply a deck down to the pool. The different tiers of the deck are seamlessly connected.
7. Gazebo Entrance Steps – a grand entrance to the garden gazebo.
8. Access Steps to get to a higher level – if the deck is raised and needs access from outside then more steps will be required. These steps can be simple or more extravagant with turns and landings or possibly even benches to sit on.
Sometimes stairs will not be accessible for the homeowner. They may be in a wheelchair, elderly or disabled and not able to manage stairs. Ramps are a great option to allow the homeowner to have the deck of their dreams.
